Omagh is the county town of Tyrone. With a population of over 48,000 it is most certainly one of the biggest towns in the north of Ireland. Omagh was founded as a town in 1610, in 1768 Omagh replaced Dungannon as the county town of Tyrone. Omagh has seen many visitors pass through in its time; these include Bill Clinton, Mary McAleese, Queen Elizabeth and Tony Blair, along with many stars such as Westlife.
Omagh has many tourist attractions, some of which you will see featured below. The Ulster American Folk Park, which is a huge attraction for Easter, Halloween, Christmas and the well-liked Bluegrass festival hosted every year. The Gortin glens forest park is 10 miles outside of Omagh, with its natural beauty of green forestry, spring lakes and lots more it’s the perfect setting for a picnic or a day out. Recently opened ‘The Strule Arts Theatre’ has received a great welcome since its opening in July 2007, with lots of upcoming stars and acts that are sure to entertain you, its well worth the visit.
